Mission

The goal of the program is to bring high quality Clinical Psychology education and applied training to An Najah National University in order to increase the number of skilled Clinical Psychologists in Palestine, for which there is a critical need and high demand. The content of the Clinical Psychology Program will cover internationally accepted knowledge in Clinical Psychology theory and practice with a specific focus on the specific psychological needs of the Palestinian people given the unique challenges of occupation and with adaptation and respect for the Palestinian culture. 

 

Vision

This proposed program will be the first Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in Palestine and one of the few in all of the Arab Region. The establishment of a Master Program in Clinical Psychology is critical at this time as it will create a Palestinian based professional Psychology community, increase the capabilities and skills of related mental health professionals in Palestine and will ensure a future national sustainability of the Mental Health Sector, according with Strategic Operational Plan of the Mental Health Policy Development in the State of Palestine.

 

Industry

The interest shown by both international and national organizations charged with the development of mental health services is also promising and encouraging for the existence of such a program. Relevant stakeholders have been interviewed and apprised of the universities intent in this matter and have been supportive in offering material resources as well as professional good will. Further An Najah has already insured necessary partnerships with international clinical training sights (such as Doctors Without Borders: French Team) who will provide supervised practicum sights for the participating students

 

Teaching and Learning

The Master Program in Clinical Psychologywill consist of a 40 credit hours curriculum that provides a complete framework for the program. Structured in a small-class format, the program will facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills needed to achieve the necessary attributes for employment in a mental health environment. To accommodate the busy schedule of its participants, the Master Program in Clinical Psychologywill be structured as a two-year (four semester) program. During each semester, the participants will meet every week for 10-credit hours in class rooms of the graduate studies For this format to be successful the ideal size of each class should be around 12 and the course structure fixed so that all students within a cohort take the same required courses and graduate at the same time
