Clinical Psychology is the specialization in the field of Psychology dedicated to the diagnosis, study and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders. Clinical psychology is based in applied science and evidence based practice whose goal is to ameliorate or decrease the effects of mental illness in the lives of individuals and the community. Clinical Psychology is a long-standing scientific endeavor with formalized training programs dating back to the early 1900 and is monitored internationally by a variety of organizations, licensing bodies, and professional boards. Clinical Psychology programs are a part of almost every university with graduate degrees in the social sciences across the world. A Master’s Program in Clinical Psychology would align the Palestinian State with international standards of training and care in the field of mental health and is the next logical step in a national strategic plan to address mental illness as a priority in the field of health care.
