Mentorship Manual and Training in Food Industries

Consultant for
“Improvement of Students Skills towards Employment Enhancement” Project


Introduction

An-Najah National University (ANU) and Palestinian Food Industries Union (PFIU) have received a grant from the Quality Improvement Fund’s (QIF) Education to Work Transition Project in partnership with the “Ministry of Education and Higher Education” and funded by the World Bank for the project entitled: Improvement of Students Skills towards Employment Enhancement. This project is designed to enhance the soft-skills for ANU’s trainees by incorporating them in more experiential learning and practical training in food industries.

This project will integrate actual experience of private sector with the educational knowledge and experience of ANU’s academicians in supervising their trainees and guiding them to innovatively address the needs/problems encountered by food industries. Having such sustainable integration would ultimately improve the ANU’s trainees’ skills through gaining more practical exposure in the market and hence, would increase their employment opportunities in food industries. On the other hand, to guarantee the success of the internship and practical training implementation process in food industries, it is extremely essential to train field supervisors in those industries for the purpose of enhancing their skills in preparing, managing and monitoring a successful training package for ANU’s trainees. A food-industry related mentorship manual should also be prepared to document the standard procedures of managing the internship process by the filed supervisors. To this end, ANU University seeks the selection and employment of a consultant for conducting the assignment of training for the field supervisors and the assignment of preparing the mentorship manual for managing the internship process by them. In addition, the consultant will be responsible for training field supervisors on using the prepared mentorship manual which ultimately leads to standardizing and ensuring the consistency of practical training and internship process at the food industry side.

Assignment Objective

An-Najah National University (ANU) and Palestinian Food Industries Union (PFIU) are currently considering the selection of a professional and qualified expert-consultant who will execute both the training of field supervisors in food industries and the mentorship manual assignment to standardize the procedures for managing internship at the industry side through training field supervisors on managing and monitoring the internship and practical training in the food industries for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of this process. The main outcome of this assignment will be a comprehensive mentorship manual documenting all requirements, responsibilities, procedures, forms, competencies and other similar elements related to the field supervisors in food industries responsible for managing the internships of ANU’s trainees. In addition, upon the completion of this assignment, the field supervisors who will participate in the training assignment should have the ability to:

  1. Apply their built and gained capacities in managing and monitoring the internship and practical training process to ANU’s trainees and interns,
  2. Successfully prepare  solid internship packages for ANU’s trainees and interns,
  3. Help trainees and interns diagnose and address urging real-life problems/needs in food industries candidate for being solved in innovative graduation projects, and
  4. Quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate the trainees and interns’ core soft and technical skills before and after their practical training.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for accomplishing the following tasks:

  1. Carefully reviewing the previously-needs assessment study, the so-far project accomplishments, the so-far monitoring and evaluation report and understanding their findings and recommendations, especially those related to filed supervisors’ capacities, skills and competencies.
  2. Develop a mentorship training manual for the field supervisors (15 persons are expected to attend) in food industries in compliance with what is identified in point (1).
  3. Conducting the prepared mentorship training programs (16 contact hours)prepared in point (2) via employing both theoretical and practical tools in training. Employment of practical tools and case-study demonstrations is highly appreciated.
  4. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the field supervisors’ capacities before and after training.
  5. Preparing a standard internship and practical training manual for guiding field supervisors in managing and monitoring the practical training and internship process in their food industries.
  6. Designing all needed job descriptions, work procedures, forms, and other parts needed for the understanding and use of the manual.
  7. Preparing and submitting a final report showing all implemented activities, analyses, results and recommendations.

Deliverables

The consultant will be responsible for submitting:

  1. Implementation plan to conduct the assignment.
  2. A comprehensive Mentorship Manual (both in Arabic and English) for food industries.
  3. Minimum of 16 contact hours training for 15 supervisors in mentorship.
  4. Final comprehensive report documenting all the findings, including but not limited to: implemented activities, evaluation and recommendations.

Essential Required Qualifications

Applicants should have the following competencies:

  1. A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in any of the following disciplines: Food Technology and Engineering, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering Project Management, Business Administration, or any other related discipline from a recognized university.
  2. At least 3 years of work experience in training and mentorship manual preparation.
  3. Submitting an abstract of at least 2 similar assignments with the application for this assignment.
  4. Strong abilities in preparing training programs.
  5. Strong ability in preparing manuals in Arabic and English.
  6. Be able to communicate, present and report in English and Arabic effectively.
  7. Effective time management and planning.

 Our selection, criteria and contracting processes will be according to the procedure of World Bank recruiting policies.

Contract Type: Lump-sum contract

Time Frame: from April 28, 2016 to May8, 2106

Level of effort  is 14working days.
