Women and Society Research Unit

The Women and Gender Studies Unit at An-Najah National University aims to promote and develop women's and gender education and research within a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environment. The unit offers various undergraduate and graduate programs, serving as a platform for knowledge and experience exchange between the University and the community.

It facilitates dialogues and discussions on women's and gender issues through seminars, conferences, workshops, and training sessions.

The unit actively seeks partnerships with civil and governmental organizations to strengthen and create programs that support women in political, social, human rights, economic, and developmental aspects, while also working towards enhancing the status of women and upholding their rights based on human rights principles.

The Women and Gender Studies Unit serves as an advocacy, support, and empowerment space for all members of the University and the wider community, adopting a feminist empowerment model and providing educational, social, and cultural programs that encourage women's self-determination and promote community participation.

Through awareness-raising and the advancement of women's rights, the unit strives to ensure gender equity, facilitate understanding, and foster mutual respect between campus members and the community to achieve gender justice and equity.

Activities:

  • Education and Awareness: The Women and Society Research Unit plays a crucial role in raising awareness about women's rights, gender equality, and social issues that impact women. We organize workshops, seminars, and training courses on various topics, including empowerment, self-defense, reproductive health, career development, financial literacy, and legal rights. These educational activities aim to equip women with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate societal challenges effectively.
  • Advocacy and Political Action: We actively participate in advocacy efforts to promote gender equality and advocate for women's rights. This includes engaging in campaigns and initiatives to address issues like violence against women, discrimination, and reproductive rights. Additionally, we work on policy development and engage in lobbying efforts to influence legislation and social policies that directly impact the lives of women.
  • Skills Development and Empowerment: Through a range of development projects, our unit implements skill-building programs and workshops that empower women and enhance their self-sufficiency. These programs focus on areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership development, financial management, computer literacy, and vocational training. By equipping women with valuable skills and knowledge, the Women and Society Research Unit contributes to their economic independence and personal growth.
