Dr. Ahmed Abu Alia, a PhD candidate in Information Technology at Wuppertal University, Germany, and a scholar from An-Najah National University, has distinguished himself through outstanding academic achievements. During his doctoral studies, he successfully published six peer-reviewed research papers in reputable journals, presented at six international conferences, and received two prestigious awards.

Of the six research papers, four were published by leading publishers, while a fifth, focused on machine learning, was published as a first-author contribution in a high-impact journal (impact factor: 3.4). He also co-authored a sixth paper and presented his findings at international conferences across Australia, Germany, India, the UAE, and France.

Dr. Abu Alia was honored with the Palestinian Islamic Bank Award for Scientific Research, securing second place in the category of "Education, Learning, and Commerce in the Era of Technology and Artificial Intelligence." Additionally, he received the Best Speaker Award for his presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence-based Early Pushing Detection in Live Video Streams of Crowds," delivered in the Intelligent Image Processing and System Monitoring track at the Computers and Automation international conference in Paris in 2023.

Beyond his academic publications and presentations, Dr. Abu Alia facilitated two three-month training scholarships at the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) for An-Najah Computer Science Department students. These scholarships, conducted in collaboration with the Palestinian-German Science Bridge and Dr. Hamed Abdelhaq from An-Najah, significantly enhanced the students’ professional competencies and readiness for the job market. Their work is scheduled for presentation at a conference in Lyon, France, this December.

Dr. Abu Alia also spearheaded a research collaboration between the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and the AI Master’s Program at An-Najah National University, led by Dr. Anas Toma. This partnership resulted in the publication of a joint research paper and secured an eight-month research scholarship for a Master’s student to complete their thesis.

Since beginning his PhD journey in October 2020, Dr. Abu Alia has focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to analyze complex data. His research, conducted in collaboration with the Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and supported by the Palestinian-German Science Bridge, has centered on developing cutting-edge methods utilizing deep learning algorithms within an intelligent framework. These methods extract actionable insights from human crowd data with precision and efficiency, offering practical solutions for large-scale event management, public safety, and smart system development.
