On Thursday, April 27, 2023, a delegation of American professors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) visited An-Najah National University as part of the Research Opportunities Program for Palestinian Students (PSRP). The delegation included Professor Haynes Miller, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, and Professor Franz Ulm, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, both from the Department of Mathematics at MIT.


The delegation was received by Dr. Raed Al-Koni, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Ahmed Basalat, Coordinator of the Research Opportunities Program for Palestinian Students (PSRP) at the University, and the heads of the mathematics and physics departments, Dr. Khaled Adarbeh and Dr. Hadeel Abu Al-Rub, Ms. Nour Hashaikeh from Public Relations Department and a group of professors and students from the Faculty of Science.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen and expand research cooperation between American universities, specifically MIT, and Palestinian universities. During the visit, the delegation met with the dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Al-Koni to discuss ways to enhance the Research Opportunities Program for Palestinian Students (PSRP) and include a larger group of teachers and students from An-Najah University, particularly those from the Faculty of Science.

Furthermore, the delegation discussed the projects completed by An-Najah students in collaboration with students from MIT. These projects were supervised and followed up on by Dr. Khalid Adarbeh and Dr. Moath Karaki from the Department of Mathematics.

In addition, Professor Haynes Miller delivered a lecture on mathematical research ideas and projects, further promoting academic collaboration and knowledge sharing.

"We are delighted to visit An-Najah University and meet with the faculty and students here. Our aim is to strengthen and expand research cooperation between our universities, and we hope to see more Palestinian students and teachers benefit from the PSRP," said Professor Haynes Miller.

The visit was a positive step towards building stronger ties between American and Palestinian universities and promoting scientific research in Palestine.
