An-Najah’s Professor Wins Best Paper Award in 7th Smart Data Smart Cities & 17th 3D GeoInfo Joint International Conference
Dr. Ihab Hijazi, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at An-Najah National University, participated in the 7th annual SDSC conference and 17th 3D GeoInfo which were jointly held in Sydney, Australia 18-21 October, 2022.
This joint event was organized by City Futures Research Centre, Smart Cities and Infrastructure Cluster and Geospatial Research Innovation Development (GRID) at the University of New South Wales, Sydney.
More than 200 research papers about different topics relevant to city and infrastructure data, analytics, collaborative environments and platforms, digital twins, and smart cities, were presented in the conference.
Dr. Hijazi and two researchers from Technische Universität München, Germany, presented a research paper titled: “URBAN GROWTH SIMULATION USING URBAN DYNAMICS AND CITYGML: A USE CASE FROM THE CITY OF MUNICH”.
The paper describes a new approach to combine an SD model with a semantic 3D city model. It shows that a bidirectional data exchange between semantic city models and SD models improves the predictions generated by the SD models. Furthermore, it shows that automatic modification of the semantic city model by the output of the SD model allows for 3D visualization and further analysis of future scenarios.
Dr. Hijazi and his colleagues from Technische Universität München won the Best Paper Award for their research paper at the conference.
