An-Najah Student Wins the PARC Gerner Award 2016
Student Hanadi Mahmoud from the Women Studies Programme at the Faculty of Graduate Studies at An-Najah won the Palestinian American Research Centre’s Gerner Award, an annual award that honors the legacy of PARC board member Dr. Deborah J. Misty Gerner who passed away in 2006. The student was awarded because of her active participation in research studies on women’s issues especially her research “Quota and Women’s Politicl Role in Hamas” which was supervised by Dr. Fareed Abu Dheir.
Gerner spent more than 25 years studying, visiting and living in the Middle East and specialized in the Arab-Israeli conflict and Palestinian affairs.

Her research focused on Palestinian nationalism, conflict resolution, mediation, human rights, gender and democratization. Her books include One Land, Two Peoples: The Conflict over Palestine (1994) and Understanding the Contemporary Middle East (2000).
