On Sunday, February 19, 20123, the President's Assistant for Community Affairs Office at An-Najah National University, organized a training workshop on public safety and emergency planning management, aiming to enhance public safety and build the capacity of local institutions and organizations to respond effectively to emergencies.


The training, which took place at the University, was attended by a diverse group of participants, including representatives from the Emergency Committee of Nablus, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

The workshop covered a range of topics related to public safety and emergency planning, including identifying potential risks, developing response plans, and implementing safety measures. The participants learned about best practices for emergency preparedness, as well as how to create effective communication strategies and mobilize resources during a crisis. They also learned about the importance of emergency planning and management to minimize the impact of natural disasters and enhance public safety.

It also included several discussions on various aspects of emergency planning management, including risk assessment, emergency response planning, communication strategies, and resource mobilization. The participants talked about the importance of developing effective emergency plans and protocols to mitigate the impact of emergencies on individuals, communities, and businesses.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Jalal Dabbeek, Seismologist, Director of Urban Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction Center at the University and Expert in the field of public safety and emergency management. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions and share their own experiences and insights on the topic.

It also included a presentation on the recent earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, providing examples and models of the earthquakes that occurred and classifying the damages. The workshop also discussed earthquake risks in Palestine and Japan, and emphasized the role of municipalities in ensuring the highest level of safety during disasters.

The training is part of the University’s commitment to promoting public safety and emergency preparedness in the community. An-Najah's Urban Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction Center plays a vital role in this mission, by offering a range of training, capacity-building, and outreach programs to various sectors of society.
