An-Najah University Receives Renowned Norwegian Physician Dr. Mads Gilbert
On May 27, 2025, An-Najah National University and its teaching hospital welcomed Dr. Mads Gilbert, Head of Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital of North Norway and Professor at the University of Tromsø, in a solidarity and humanitarian visit.
Dr. Gilbert, a globally recognized humanitarian and strong advocate for the Palestinian cause, has volunteered at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza and co-authored the book Eyes in Gaza. Despite being barred from entering Gaza after October 7, 2023, he launched a digital initiative to guide young doctors and coordinate global medical support for Palestine.
During the visit, Dr. Gilbert met with medical students in training and praised the high quality of education at An-Najah, encouraging them to pursue excellence despite challenges. He was welcomed by university and hospital officials, including Mr. Raed Debiy, Dr. Faris Abushamma, and Dr. Emad Hussein.
In appreciation of his efforts, Dr. Gilbert received an honorary plaque recognizing his continued support for human rights, justice, and the Palestinian people.
