An-Najah Receives an Academic Delegation from the U.S.A

On Thursday, July 31st, 2016, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received at his office an academic delegation from the U.S. as part of the Cultural Visits Exchange Programme “Zyara”, implemented by the Welfare Association (Taawon) in Ramallah in partnership with the American Federation of Ramallah Palestine (AFRP), with funding from Bank of Palestine (BoP) and United Palestinian Appeal (UPA).
The delegation was headed by Mrs. Randa Kandah, Head of the American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine Education and Cultural Exchange Mission (AFRECF) and included Mr. Nejad Ghannam, Director of the Welfare Association in the West Bank and a group of Academics from different American universities.
Prof. Natsheh talked about An-Najah's history and development and the political and financial difficulties that we encounter in higher education in Palestine. He also talked about its academic status and tackled topics on unemployment in Palestine and explained models of academic exchange programmes with international universities.
In turn, Mrs. Kandah discussed scholarships offered to Palestinian students in general to the U.S and stressed the importance of academic freedom at institutions of higher education in Palestine.
At the end of their visit, the delegation was given a tour of the New Campus.

- The meeting was also attended by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Drs. Nayef Abu Khalaf and Raed Nuairat, Assistant Professors at the Political Sciences Department; Ms Dalal Radwan from the International Office and Mrs. Shatha Jararaa from the Public Relations Department at An-Najah.
- Zyara is designed to orient U.S citizens, academics, journalists, physicians, lawyers, people of faith, etc. about the political and socioeconomic situation in Palestine and provide opportunities for them to gain first-hand experience in Palestine through meeting and interacting with people from the various strata of the Palestinian society.
- Established in 1983 in Geneva, Welfare Association (Taawon) is a non-governmental Palestinian development organization that strives to make a distinguished contribution toward furthering the progress of Palestinians, preserving their heritage and identity, supporting their living culture and building civil society. It aims at achieving these goals by methodically identifying the Palestinian people’s needs and priorities and establishing the soundest mechanisms to maximize the benefits from the available funding resources.
