The course covers the fundamentals of scientific research in history. Training includes topic selection, research planning, data collection and evaluation, and data analysis, organisation, and authentication to reach critical conclusions. Students are trained to come to grips with historical documents, resources, and up-to-date scholarship in history. They are expected to use the research skills to produce a research paper and to demonstrate knowledge of the basics of thesis planning.

This course is a study of the rise and evolution of Arab history. Topics will include the influence of the rise of Islam, methodology of the Arab historians, history schools including Almadenah school, alkufah school, and Albasrah school.

This course looks into the emergence and development of political philosophies on the world scene and the attitude of Islam towards such philosophies. Special attention will be given to the main principles of Islamic movements and their perception of modernism; a movement that enjoys a great deal of attention in third world debate.
