Program Description

The Master's program in Archaeology at An-Najah National University stands out as a distinctive and exceptional offering among Palestinian universities. Uniquely positioned to contribute significantly to the documentation of Palestinian historical narratives, this national program holds special prominence within our academic offerings.

An-Najah National University has strategically designated the Archaeology program as one of its flagship initiatives. Aimed at graduate students aspiring to contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage, this program opens doors to a diverse range of career opportunities. Graduates are well-equipped to engage in meaningful roles within governmental and private institutions devoted to cultural heritage, including museums, conservation and restoration companies focusing on ancient structures, and municipal bodies across Palestine.

The program uniquely prepares students for involvement in international initiatives, archaeological projects, and expeditions. Participants have the opportunity to engage in archaeological excavations at sites spanning various time periods and cultures, covering the entirety of Palestine's rich history—from the dawn of human civilization on this land to the conclusion of the Ottoman era in 1917.

We present some of the objectives of the program as follows:

1. Providing the relevant local sectors and institutions such as: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Tourist Police with a qualified scientific cadre that contributes to meeting the needs of society and its development for the better in the field of protecting and developing the antiquities sector in Palestine.

2. Providing excellent education in the field of archaeology, enhanced by scientific research to serve the needs of the Palestinian society.

3. Promoting the Palestinian historical narrative through archaeological studies and research.

4. Instilling the values, principles and ethics of Islamic society, such as tolerance and understanding between civilizations, through the study and understanding of different civilizations.

5. Serve as a cultural and educational resource for understanding and disseminating Palestinian heritage and history.

6. Inculcate the concept of multiculturalism in students and provide them with the mechanisms that ensure that they deal effectively with an increasingly complex and rapidly changing global society.

7. Embedding effective communication skills, critical thinking, and other skills that enable graduates to perform productively in the field of work life.

8. Developing the strategy of the ability to solve issues and work in locations that vary in their potential, and take advantage of what is available in the surrounding environment in the effects.
