The Faculty of Nursing at An-Najah National University, represented by its Dean, Dr. Eman Al-Shawish, together with faculty members, administrative staff, and students, participated in the First Palestinian International Nursing and Midwifery Conference 2026, held from 6–8 May at the Bethlehem Convention Palace.

Organized by the Palestinian Nursing and Midwifery Syndicate under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, the conference was held in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO). As the first and largest event of its kind in Palestine, the conference brought together healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, and students to discuss the future of nursing and midwifery and their role in strengthening the Palestinian healthcare system.

The Faculty of Nursing played an active role in the conference’s scientific program. Dr. Eman Al-Shawish and Dr. Nizar Saeed served on the Scientific Committee, contributing to the review and evaluation of research submissions and supporting the development of the conference’s academic agenda. Dr. Al-Shawish also participated in assessing research papers and ensuring their compliance with academic integrity and research quality standards.

Several faculty members attended and contributed to the conference, including Dr. Samah Ishtayeh, Dr. Imad Thilthin, Dr. Jamal Al-Qudomi, Dr. Fatima Harzallah, Dr. Shorouq Qaddous, and Ms. Faten Dwaikat. In addition to participating in scientific sessions covering recent developments in nursing, healthcare, and research, a number of faculty members chaired specialized sessions and supervised student poster presentations.

The Faculty’s students also made a strong contribution to the conference. Doctoral students in the Nursing PhD Program presented oral and poster presentations, while more than 140 nursing and midwifery students showcased research posters reflecting the Faculty’s strong emphasis on academic excellence and research engagement. The conference provided students with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their research and communication skills and engage with international experiences and best practices in healthcare.

Among the conference highlights was the achievement of student Sawsan Msallam, who received the Best Scientific Poster Award, underscoring the high caliber of the Faculty’s students and their success in competitive academic settings.

The three-day conference attracted more than 2,000 participants from Palestine and abroad, including representatives of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund, the International Confederation of Midwives, the Scientific Nursing Council, and numerous healthcare and academic institutions. The program featured scientific sessions, research poster exhibitions, and recognition ceremonies honoring contributors and student researchers.

Dr. Eman Al-Shawish noted that the Faculty’s participation reflects its commitment to advancing scientific research and encouraging both students and faculty members to engage in international academic events. She emphasized that such opportunities contribute to the continuous development of nursing education and the enhancement of academic and professional excellence.

She also expressed her appreciation to the University administration for supporting the Faculty’s participation in this landmark event and thanked the Palestinian Nursing and Midwifery Syndicate for organizing a conference that marks an important step forward for the nursing and midwifery professions in Palestine.
