An-Najah University Takes Part in the Second Annual BREEDTECH Meeting to Advance Agricultural Biotechnology Education
A delegation from An-Najah National University participated virtually in the Second Annual Meeting of the Building Capacity in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Education and Research through Partnership Program in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe for Agricultural Transformation (BREEDTECH), funded by the Erasmus+ Programme.
The university was represented by Prof. Munqez Shtaya, Director of the Scientific Centers and Project Coordinator; Dr. Bilal Rahhal, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Engineering; Ms. Faten Akkawi, Coordinator of the Technical Support Unit at the Scientific Centers; and Ms. Fatima Al-Sakhl, Head of the Project Accounting Department.
Held from September 29–30, 2025, the meeting brought together representatives from ten partner universities across Palestine, Africa, and Europe to review the progress achieved under the project’s framework and to outline the implementation plan for the upcoming year.
The discussions focused on future training programs and academic exchange visits, including specialized training for the faculty and students of the Department of Plant Production, who will visit Sweden to explore the latest technologies in plant breeding and agricultural biotechnology. The meeting also addressed coordination plans for other ongoing project activities.
Due to the unexpected closure of border crossings in September, An-Najah’s delegation participated online, ensuring the university’s continued engagement and contribution to the project despite the travel restrictions.
The BREEDTECH project aims to strengthen institutional and human capacities in the fields of plant breeding and agricultural biotechnology, enhancing regional cooperation and advancing sustainable agricultural transformation across partner countries
