As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships and enhance the quality of its academic programs, An-Najah National University participated in the meetings of the SPEED Project, funded by the Erasmus+ Program, which aims to develop the capacities of Middle Eastern countries in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The university was represented by Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein‬, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Ihab H. Alsurakji, Coordinator of the Mechanical, Mechatronics, and Vehicle Engineering Programs, during the visit to the University of Stavanger in Norway.

The SPEED Project addresses the significant skills gap in the electric and hybrid vehicle sector by conducting comprehensive needs assessments, developing innovative educational resources, and providing specialized hands-on training. It also aims to establish a Center of Excellence and promote regional cooperation toward a greener and more sustainable future.

During the meetings, the An-Najah delegation met with counterparts from the University of Stavanger and project partners from several regional and international academic institutions, including Ruhr University Bochum (Germany), the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Tanta University (Egypt), Palestine Ahliya University (Palestine), and Sfax and Gafsa Universities (Tunisia), as well as the Al-Khawarizmi Computing Center.

The discussions focused on reviewing collaboration mechanisms, exchanging research expertise, and evaluating the project’s progress, in addition to developing plans for future cooperation, particularly in vocational training for academics and instructors and in curriculum development across participating institutions.

The University of Stavanger team also organized a field visit for the delegation to the Energy Research Center and the Battery Development Laboratory, offering valuable insights into the latest technologies in energy systems and electric and hybrid vehicles. This visit contributed to strengthening the partners’ expertise and enhancing the project’s outcomes.
