Five exceptional women scientists from the Global South have been honored with the 2025 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World for their contributions to inclusive health research, advancing SDG 3. Their work covers critical health issues such as maternal and child health, sustainable pharmaceutical analysis, environmental health, and mental health care, addressing pressing challenges in their regions while showcasing leadership, mentorship, and community engagement.

Dr. Badrasawi’s pioneering work in clinical nutrition, women’s health, geriatric nutrition, and public health has had a significant impact on addressing critical health issues such as food insecurity, aging, and chronic disease management in Palestine. Her research integrates innovative methods, such as nutritional epidemiology, psychosocial health, and machine learning, to analyze complex health data and drive public health solutions. She has also led several impactful initiatives, including the Pal-Age Project, which focuses on aging populations, and the development of the Palestinian Food Atlas, a tool designed to improve nutrition assessment and education in Palestine.

In recognition of her achievements, Dr. Badrasawi will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a travel grant to attend the World Health Summit in October 2025, where she will present her research to an international audience of health experts.

The OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award, established in 2013, celebrates the leadership and mentoring of women scientists from the Global South. Dr. Badrasawi’s success not only underscores her outstanding contributions to the health sciences but also highlights An-Najah National University’s dedication to research excellence and its role in advancing public health.
