Prof. Shehdeh Jodeh from An-Najah Contributes to Chapter on Arsenic Remediation in Prestigious SpringerLink Publication
An-Najah National University is proud to announce that Prof. Shehdeh Jodeh from the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science has contributed to the publication of a chapter in the esteemed book Arsenic Remediation of Food and Water, released by the internationally renowned publisher SpringerLink.
Prof. Jodeh collaborated with Dr. Bayan Khalaf from the Arab American University and Dr. Subhi Samhan, Director of the Scientific Research Department at the Palestinian Water Authority, in this significant research effort.
The chapter explores the use of innovative, modified cellulose nanoparticles to remove arsenic from contaminated water through the adsorption method. The researchers developed and tested three compounds with exceptional surface properties, evaluating their chemical and thermal stability using advanced analytical techniques. Through meticulous experimentation, they identified the optimal conditions to achieve the highest purification efficiency and analyzed the kinetic and thermodynamic properties of the reactions involved.
This groundbreaking research stands out due to the cost-effectiveness and high efficacy of the materials developed, making them suitable for local water purification applications. The project was conducted in collaboration with the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence and in partnership with the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre).
