An-Najah University President Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid Attends Inaugural Arab Council for Sustainable Development Board Meeting


On Sunday, June 30, 2024, Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, President of An-Najah National University, participated in the first Board of Directors meeting of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development. The event, hosted at Amman Arab University, brought together key figures including Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Prof. Muhammad Al-Wadyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Amman Arab University, Dr. Shereen Abu Ghazaleh, Director of the Council, and representatives from various Arab universities.
Dr. Salama opened the meeting by welcoming attendees and emphasizing the Council’s goals: activating the developmental role of Arab higher education institutions, promoting sustainable development, and fostering a culture of moral commitment to social and environmental responsibility. These efforts aim to create a conscientious generation ready to undertake social and humanitarian tasks.
Prof. Zaid expressed his enthusiasm for the participation, highlighting An-Najah National University's dedication to enhancing the role of Arab universities as key drivers of regional development. He stressed that promoting sustainable development and social and environmental responsibility is central to the university's vision. Prof. Zaid also emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships to advance sustainable development across various dimensions.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the Council’s updated internal regulations and celebrated recent achievements, such as the first international conference titled "Arab Universities as Incubators for Sustainable Development: Reality and Aspiration," and the establishment of sustainable development units at each member university. They also discussed future plans, including the proposed International Environmental Conference on “Wars and Armed Conflicts and their Impact on Sustainable Development,” aimed at examining the effects of conflicts on human and societal growth.
The meeting underscored the Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering cooperation and sharing experiences among Arab universities to advance sustainable development in the region.
