An-Najah Partners with Palestinian Universities to Launch First International Scientific Conference on Language and Communication in the Digital Age




On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, An-Najah National University, in collaboration with Palestinian universities, successfully launched the first international scientific conference on the challenges of language and communication in the era of digitization. The conference titled "Challenges of Language and Communication in the Era of Digitization: Issues and Prospects" was organized by Al-Istiqlal University in Jericho and supported by all Palestinian universities, under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mahmoud Abu Moyes.
The opening ceremony welcomed numerous distinguished guests, including Prof. Amro Salameh, President of the Association of Arab Universities, several Palestinian university presidents, sponsors, and representatives from diplomatic missions, security, and civil institutions.
The University sent a delegation, which included Dr. Saida Affouneh, President's Assistant for Digitalization and E-Learning, members of the conference's preparatory committee, researchers contributing scientific papers to the conference, and staff from the E-Learning Center, the Public Relations Department, and the Media Center.
Prof. Abu Moyes commended the conference as a valuable academic gathering to celebrate the Arabic language, which is threatened by globalization and openness to other languages. He emphasized the importance of digitizing science and knowledge, which is pivotal to the nation's progress and prosperity amidst the massive digital revolution.
During the opening session, the keynote speakers emphasized the critical need for adopting a comprehensive strategy to improve language functions and objectives, especially in light of the rapid digital developments and challenges it faces.
They also stressed the importance of achieving effective scientific partnerships and urged Palestinian universities to unite their efforts in this regard. Furthermore, the speakers highlighted the need to preserve the purity of the Arabic language and intensify efforts to enhance its status through enacting linguistic laws and legislation that protect it, digitizing Arabic dictionaries and libraries, encouraging research cooperation, and developing partnerships with all Palestinian universities.
On the first day of the conference, attendees were able to participate in a variety of activities. The University’s E-Learning Center showcased its e-courses and initiatives, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about interactive learning models. Additionally, a group of the University’s students presented an explanation of how interactive play can be used to teach the French language. The Baghdad Cultural Library also organized an exhibition of books related to Palestinian history and the Palestinian cause.
The conference hosted a series of sessions over two days and focused on a range of topics related to language and digital communication. These topics included cultural pluralism in the digital age, the impact of the Corona pandemic on language and digital communication, the integration of modern technology in educational institutions, and the challenges of translation in the face of technological development. Distinguished researchers and scholars from various Arab countries participated in these sessions.
