An-Najah National University, represented by Dr. Ahmed Bassalat, participated in the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Physics Without Frontiers (PWF) program in Italy in a hybrid event at ICTP - International Centre for Theoretical Physics on 22 November, 2022.

The event was open to all and included talks by guest speakers as well as panel discussions and case studies highlighting PWF activities that have taken place in far corners of the world.

Dr. Bassalat has been a participant in the program since its establishment in 2012 in cooperation with Palestinian and international researchers and scientists and with the support of ICTP.

The PWF program has operated in Palestine since 2012, bringing exposure to particle physics to the class room. It aims to inspire and motivate young undergraduate and master students with particle physics and further study, and connect Palestinian physicists living abroad back to Palestinian institutes.

Furthermore, PWF aims to inspire students in science- and technology-lagging regions to consider a career in scientific research. PWF achieves this by organizing educational and training activities such as university courses, workshops or roadshows, working closely with local volunteer scientists to tailor the activities to a country’s needs.

The event included a discussion about the first project of the Physics Without Frontiers program which was about particle physics in Palestine. Participants referred to the prominent role of An-Najah University in assuming the national leadership in particle physics in Palestine.
