The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah National University, launched the activities of An-Najah National University's 6th International Medical Sciences Conference under the theme: “Medical and Surgical Oncology in the Era of Subspecialty: What is the Evidence” on Thursday September 22, 2022.


With the attendance of Her Excellency the Palestinian Minister of Health Dr. Mai Al Kaila, the conference included the participation of a large number of eminent international researchers, academics and doctors as well as local, regional and international organizations.

The conference aimed at discussing recent developments in cancer detection and treatment through a group of research papers submitted by local and international researchers and academics. It also aimed at strengthening partnerships between Palestine and other countries in order to foster academic collaboration among the participants.

The opening session was attended by Prof. Rami Hamdallah, Vice-Chairman of An-Najah University's Board of Trustees and Chairman of An-Najah National University Hospital’s Board of Trustees, Professor Abdel Naser Zaid, President of An-Najah, and An-Najah’s vice presidents, assistants, faculty deans and heads of departments as well as other notable guests and attendees.

It was moderated by Dr. Iyad Maqboul, Chair of Public Relations and IT at the conference. Dr. Maqboul welcomed the attendees and spoke about the conference's themes and activities.

In the opening speech, Dr. Mazen Abdalla, Conference President welcomed the attendees and expressed his happiness with ‎the strong local and international participation in the conference. He also commended the conference’s sponsors and organizing committees in supporting and organizing such a great event.

This was followed by a speech by Professor Zaid who declared the open of the 6th International Medical Sciences Conference and welcomed the participants from all over the world who came to exchange experience and work together on the field of medical and surgical oncology.

Additionally, he noted how An-Najah ‎has supported critical health issues at the Palestinian health sector, first and foremost cancer detection and treatment's issues, pointing to the large numbe of research papers carried out by the University’s research units and centers. Dr. Zaid also talked about the University’s international rankings and other academic achievements. Lastly, ‎he expressed hope that this conference will deliberate and discuss all the different facets of ‎this exciting topic and come up with recommendations that will lead to a better, healthier, ‎world in Palestine.‎

The conference also included speeches by Her Excellency Dr. Al Kaila, Dr. Sufian Basit from the Palestinian Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Khalil Issa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Kamal Hijazi, An-Najah National University Hospital CEO, and Dr. Faris Abushamma, Conference Vice President and Chair of the Conference’s Scientific Committee.

The conference was over two days and included sessions on different topics including breast cancer, hematoma, spinal tumors, kidney cancer, liver tumors, abdominal tumors, urology, and orthopedics. Furthermore, it included discissions about robotic surgery in oncology, laparoscopy, thromboembolism, and stem cell transplantation.
