An-Najah University Launches a New Master's Program in Comparative Literature
An-Najah's Faculty of Graduate Studies has launched a new Master's degree in Comparative Literature. The English Language and Literature Department at the University has taken a leading role in the development of this program, which is convened by Dr. Abdel Karim Daragmeh, Director of An-Najah's Center of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) together with colleagues from the English Department.
The MA program is not only the first of its kind to be accredited and offered in Palestine, but only among two MA programs in the Arab world.
The program is designed to give students critical, theoretical and research expertise in the field of comparative literature. Students will be introduced to key, and interesting topics in comparative literature, such as diaspora and exile literature, Arabic and English romanticism, and postmodern theory.
The program will equip students with the skills needed to develop their arguments and critical thinking. Future applicants will also have opportunities to hone their research, analytical, and writing skills.
They will gain a greater understanding of cultural contexts across different historical periods and cultures. They will also examine interdisciplinary, cross-national approaches to literature and critical theory.
A completed master's degree of Comparative Literature at An-Najah University offers students the best conditions for pursuing doctoral studies at the best European and US universities. It also offers the best conditions to join public and private institutions, and land jobs in prominent universities as academics.
