On Monday, October 22, 2018, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received a research delegation from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva.

The delegation included Dr. Dormeier Freire, Lecturer at IHEID and Asian Academic Coordinator of the International Executive Master in Development Studies, Asian Institute of Technology and Hanan Salama, Regional Academic Coordinator for Central Asia and Caucasus Area as well as Sylvia Garcia, Scientific Researcher at the HETS University in Geneva.


The meeting aimed at discussing means of academic and research cooperation in terms of international studies, social work, development strategies and policies, conflict management and violence. It also aimed at developing academic and cultural exchange programmes for students and staff as well as conducting joint development projects between the two parties.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and briefed them on An-Najah's history, academic programmes, campuses, scientific centres, National Hospital and partnership agreements with a number of European and American universities.

He also talked about the political and financial obstacles that face higher education in Palestine. He added that the University is achieving great progress in world rankings despite the difficulties.

Finally, he discussed further means of academic cooperation with regards to offering joint MA programmes and student and staff scholarship programmes.

Dr. Samah Saleh, Head of Social Work Department mentioned that she will be with the delegation to do field work towards an international study on domestic violence.

In turn, the delegation stressed the importance of developing cooperation with An-Najah and mentioned that they are ready to offer support for staff and students scholarships and joint research production.
At the end of their visit, the delegation were given a tour of the New Campus to learn more about its faculties and Media Centre.
