On Saturday, October 21st, 2017, The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah organized a scientific conference on utilizing genetically modified mice species, Collaborative Cross (cc), in scientific experiments to detect genetic diseases during which the participants announced the inauguration of An-Najah Animal House.


The conference started with a speech by Dr. Iyad Al-Ali, Coordinator of Scientific Research who welcomed the attendees and thanked the university administration for their continuous support for scientific research. He also thanked the conference preparatory committee for their consistent efforts to make the conference a success. He then invited the Palestinian universities to increase the investment in scientific research projects, especially regarding medicine.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs gave a speech on behalf of Professor Maher Natsheh, the Acting President through which he stressed the importance of utilizing (cc) mice in scientific experiments. He mentioned that the University always supports conducting research projects that serve mankind. 

Dr. Khalil Issa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences said that the faculty supports scientific research conducted by both staff and student. He also stressed the importance of the collaboration between Palestinian researchers and the University to conduct research in various academic fields.

  • The conference also included a number of scientific lectures given by prominent international researchers including Prof. Arnie Schaffer (Institute of Medical Genetics Human Genetics at the Charité - Germany), Prof. Darla Miller (North Carolina-USA), Prof. Aristotelis (Athena- Greece), Prof. Fuad Iraqi (Palestine) and Dr. Aysar Nashif (Palestine).
  • A number of Palestinian researchers and university students also attended the conference.
  • Established in 2015, the Animal House is a place of animals’ husbandry through which the scientists conduct experiments on animals such as rabbit, hamsters and mice. The house allows the university students to train and do research and experiments on the animals.
