An-Najah National University represented by Dr. Sameer Abu Eisheh, staff member at the Faculty of Engineering and IT has recently participated in the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference 2017 in Hong Kong (WSBE17 Hong Kong).


WSBE17 Hong Kong is the world conference of the 2015-2017 cycle of the renowned SBE Conference Series, which is considered to be the most influential of its kind globally. The conference concluded the cycle by embracing all of the findings from the 20 regional conferences held in different parts of the world in 2016.

The conference shed light on the theme of sustainability at the level of residential neighborhoods, buildings matching sustainability requirements, high performance sustainable facilities and promoting sustainability in the local communities.

Dr. Abu Eisheh presented his research paper titled: “Strategic Planning for Sustainable Neighborhoods: A Case Study from Palestine”.

The research study is the first of its kind in Palestine that recommended developing legislations and setting standards for planning and designing the infrastructure and the buildings to create sustainable communities.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Abu Eisheh also met with several academics from different universities in Hong Kong to discuss possible means of mutual cooperation in terms of sustainability and green university.

  • With the theme of “Transforming Our Built Environment through Innovation and Integration: Putting Ideas into Action”, WSBE17 Hong Kong brought together 1,800 green building advocates, policy-makers, academics and industry practitioners from over 55 countries. The three-day event included conference sessions with top-notch speakers and around 100 parallel sessions, with an exhibition alongside.
  • The research study was conducted in cooperation with Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein and Engineer Dima Salameh from An-Najah.
