At the beginning of the academic year 2016/2017, the Public Relations and Communications Department at An-Najah launched the “I am Palestine. I can” project in cooperation with the Central Elections Commission.

The project is funded by the EU and aims at upgrading students’ role in the coming Palestinian municipal elections. It focuses on the importance of youth interactive participation in the elections and the impact of that participation on the election process.

In accordance with the municipal elections in the West Bank, the department organized two workshops in which it hosted election specialists.

The first workshop, moderated by Ms Ma’ali Barqawi, Supervisor of the Working Women’s Association in Tulkarem, shed light on the topics of citizenship, elective rights, the role of youth and the role of women in the election process.

The second workshop mainly tackled topics related to the election programme and was moderated by trainer Bader Alhudhud from Partners for Sustainable Development Company.

Dr. Abdulkareem Sarhan, Head of the Public Relations and Communication Department said that the project resulted in raising students’ awareness on the importance of the elections.

He also mentioned that 90% of the project’s plan completed as the above mentioned workshops were conclusion activities.

Mr. Mahmoud Al-Moseimi from the Central Elections Committee said that the commission works hard to raise the people’s awareness on the election process. He added that the commission aims at developing relations with institutions of higher education in Palestine.
