Qais Abu Hasan, junior human medicine student at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of An-Najah National University has recently joined the Harvard Stem Cell Institute Internship Programme.


With this achievement, Qais is the first Palestinian student to join the HSCI Internship Programme (HIP).

The programme will be over 10 weeks from June 5th-August 11th, 2017 during which the student will be doing research in one of Harvard’s 11 affiliated hospitals and research centres.

This year, 800 students from different parts of the world applied for the programme of which 35 were admitted.

Student Abu Hasan clarified that the motivation letter plays an important role in the selection process. He added that his motivation letter was about why he chose human medicine and his aspirations to develop the health system in Palestine.

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Internship Programme (HIP) provides undergraduate students with a focused and challenging summer research experience in a cutting-edge stem cell science laboratory. Interns are exposed to different professional options within the scientific arena through a stem cell seminar series, a career pathways presentation and a weekly stem cell companion course.
