On Wednesday, October 5th, 2016, the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training at An-Najah held a workshop on the philosophical underpinnings of various frameworks for educational standards, assessment, and constructing rubrics that guide the programme direction and its desired outcomes. Also the relationships between assessment and evaluation along with their techniques were explored to enhance the effectiveness of these benchmarks and rubrics.

The workshop was facilitated and conducted by Professor Mahmoud Suleiman (of California State University, Bakersfield) who is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training at An-Najah for a full academic year.  The workshop was attended by several faculty members from various disciplines at the faculty.

Throughout the forum, participants engaged in deep discussion about the nature of evaluation and assessment in terms of theory and practice in addition to the importance of standards and benchmarks in advancing various programmes in the faculty.

The workshop resulted in a vision about the standards that must be taken into account in academic programmes in the School. The Faculty of Education will continue on the workshop topics in subsequent series given the importance of constructing specific rubrics for various programmes.
