On Wednesday, June 15th, 2016, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received at his office a delegation of International Relations Officers from three Italian universities as part of  a Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) project.


The delegation headed by Mrs. Emilia Stoduto, Communication, Networking and International Project Officer at UNIMED included Mr. Angelo Stefanni from the University Alma Mater of Bologna; Mr. Raffaele Longo: from the University of Calabria and Mrs. Francesca Scribano from the University of Messina.

The visit aimed at introducing the international aspect of An-Najah and exploring areas of potential cooperation for future projects.

Prof. Natsheh welcomed the delegation and talked about An-Najah students, campuses, programmes, scientific centres and the political and financial challenges that encounter higher education in Palestine. He also talked about the university exchange programmes, its international cooperation agreements and the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Programme. He went on to say that the Arabic programme attracts students from different parts of Europe to learn Arabic and expressed willingness to receive students from Italian universities.

The delegation in turn discussed possible means of mutual cooperation between the Palestinian and the Italian universities. They also talked about the mobility programmes that that allow Palestinian students and staff to exchange expertise.

Dr. Mohammad Al-Najjar, Director of Project Management and Consulting Unit introduced the guests to the unit’s services and projects and explained how it works with partner institutions on proposals in different fields.

Mr. Alaa Abu Dheir, Coordinator of the International Youth Exchange Programme (Zajel) briefed the attendees on Zajel objectives, activities and international volunteers who come from the USA, Italy and other parts of Europe.

Afterwards, the delegation had a second meeting with Dr. Al-Najjar and Dr. Rasha Khayyat, Scholarships and Erasmus+ Coordinator at An-Najah and the international office team to exchange international relations practices and discuss areas of cooperation.  

Later, the delegates were given tour of the Media Centre, the Faculty of Engineering and the Arts Gallery in the new campus.

The meeting was also attended by Ms Christen Phaneuf, Ms Karam Abu Ghazaleh and Ms Dalal Radwan from the International Office and Ms Shatha Jararaa from the Public Relations Department at An-Najah.
