On Thursday, March 10th, 2016, the Urban Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction Centre at An-Najah participated in an international workshop titlesd: “Mitigation of Disasters Due to Severe Natural Events: from Policy to Practice” in Colombo, Sir Lanka.


The workshop was over four days from March 10th-13th, 2016 and was organized by the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) and the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The workshop aimed at bringing together the stakeholders and experts at national and international levels to share experiences and work out strategic interventions to mitigate the hazards due to severe natural events.

Engineer Hatem Al-Wahsh, Representative of the State of Palestine and An-Najah submitted a research paper on applied research and community service to build a community capable of confronting natural disasters.

The workshop also included discussing other research papers and a resolution on “Practical Guideline to Minimize Hazards due to Severe Natural Events”.

Notes:

  • An-Najah participation was supported by the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence which has recently became a member in the Centre for Science & Technology of the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries.
  • The workshop was also attended by Mr. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Technology and Research in Sir Lank and 64 experts from 19 countries, 23 of which were foreign ones.
