 An-Najah National University in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministries of Local Governance and Culture held the “Palestine Tells its Story” Conference in Jericho.


The conference was funded by Palestinian businessman Mr. Imran E’mar and tackled the subject of the documentation of Palestinian history by local academic institutions and the public and private sectors in Palestine.

The conference generally aimed at encouraging the attending municipal and village councils to take part in the documentation of the Palestinian history, monuments and traditions. It also aimed at discussing the history and archeology of various Palestinian villages and cities as well as the agricultural and social life and to the effects of Israeli settlements on archeology in Palestine.

The conference speakers discussed the Profile of the City of Jerusalem; history, geography and religion.

The conference recommended that the government pays more attention to the marginalized areas including small residential areas and small rural areas.

Simultaneously, the conference was held in the Gaza Strip as a group of participating researchers who were not able to make to the West Bank talked about similar subjects.

The conference included speeches by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs who spoke in behalf of Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah; Mr. Tayeb Abdurraheem, Secretary General to the President  who spoke on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas; Dr. Hussein Al-Araj, Minister of the Palestinian Ministry of Local Government; Mr. Abdul Naser Saleh, Deputy Minister of Culture; Dr. Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization; Engineer Majed Fetyani, Governor of Jericho Province and Professor Yahya Jaber, Rapporteur of the Preparatory Committee of the Conference.
