An-Najah University Students Shine at LCOY Palestine 2025 Local Youth Conference on Climate Change

Students from An-Najah National University took part in the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change – LCOY Palestine 2025, held in Ramallah and organized by the Arab Youth Green Voices Network (AYGVN). The event was supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), and the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority.
An-Najah students demonstrated a strong and dynamic presence, contributing not only as participants but also as part of the organizing team. They were involved in guest reception, registration, session facilitation, and a variety of interactive workshops that addressed key climate-related issues including environmental health, food security, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, climate justice, and the circular economy.
Their participation was organized through several active student societies at the university, including the Ecology Friends Association, the Student Association for Sustainable Development Goals, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), with support from other relevant scientific societies. The delegation was supervised by Mr. Anan Al-Nasser, Coordinator of Student Societies at the Deanship of Student Affairs, and Mr. Basheer Zamel, Advisor to the the Student Association for Sustainable Development Goals.
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by representatives from various national and international organizations and featured broad youth participation. This gave the event a unique and impactful character and reaffirmed the essential role of young people in shaping future environmental and climate policies in Palestine.
The conference’s organizing committee praised the performance of An-Najah students, highlighting their professionalism, discipline, and the high quality of their contributions, which significantly enriched the discussions around climate challenges and opportunities.
An-Najah students also engaged in central thematic sessions focused on innovative waste management, artificial intelligence in climate solutions, food sovereignty, the intersection of climate justice with access to water and health, and building resilient cities in times of crisis. In addition, they participated in specialized workshops, including an interactive session on understanding climate change through the Climate Fresk method, as well as discussions on environmental safety, holistic health, and sustainable agricultural solutions.
Mr. Al-Nasser noted that the university’s participation in this conference is part of its broader commitment to empowering students and encouraging their involvement in both local and international environmental initiatives. He emphasized that An-Najah continues to integrate sustainable development themes into its academic programs and student-led activities, reinforcing its belief in the vital role of youth in addressing climate challenges.
LCOY Palestine 2025 is officially recognized as part of the global Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) series. The event serves as a platform to amplify the voice of Palestinian youth and promote their active participation in global environmental and climate-related decision-making processes.
