In pursuit of delivering quality education to all individuals, the Deanship of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Public Relations Department and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs at An-Najah National University, embarked a series of guidance tours for high school students across several northern provinces at the outset of the second semester of the academic year 2023 – 2024. These tours embraced multiple ambitions, including the promotion of quality education and the importance of pursuing vocational specializations. Moreover, there was an emphasis on encouraging female students to pursue higher education, thereby fostering gender equality, and providing psychological and social support to students in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Under the auspices of Prof. Abdel Nasser Zaid, the President of the University, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Deanship of Student Affairs, in conjunction with the Public Relations Department and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, on-site visits to high schools were conducted. These visits focused to acquaint school students with the array of academic specializations available at An-Najah National University and Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology. This initiative aimed to facilitate the students' access to higher education amidst the challenges faced by our nation due to war and blockade, circumstances that have hindered customary university outreach efforts. The visits included thorough tours of the university's diverse facilities, aiming to foster a positive view of higher education, campus life, and the extracurricular activities offered. These initiatives are instrumental in shaping the character of students and alumni, facilitating their smooth integration into local and global communities.
As part of its annual agenda, the counseling team executed visits to multiple secondary schools, catering to both male and female students across Nablus, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, and Jenin governorates. The team interacted with around 1,700 male students from secondary schools and 3,326 female students from various educational institutions during these visits.
The counseling team focused on introducing students to the university's recent, market-driven specializations, emphasizing the importance of professional fields that foster creativity and skill development. This approach aims to tackle unemployment by creating tailored job opportunities, thus improving graduates' economic status and positively impacting the nation's economy, ultimately addressing poverty.
The team also promoted gender equality in delivering high-quality and suitable education for high school students, recognizing women's leadership potential which enables them to assume significant roles in decision-making processes.
Furthermore, the counseling visits offered psychological and social support to students, acknowledging the periodic interruptions in education due to Israeli assaults on Palestinian cities and governorates.
The team also emphasized the importance of education for all students, regardless of their economic circumstances, which might hinder their university enrollment. They outlined the university's vital scholarships and assistance programs, designed to alleviate economic challenges experienced by some Palestinian families due to the ongoing war on Gaza Strip.
The counseling team from An-Najah National University sent warm regards to all secondary school staff and students, applauding their resilience in pursuing education despite challenges. They encouraged them to visit the university where they are warmly received and offered support for any inquiries or assistance needed.
