In a new achievement highlighting the excellence of Palestinian students in international arenas, a team from An-Najah National University secured first and second places in the regional Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence Hackathon, held from April 24–28, 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The University team consisted of student Mohammad Hannini from the Faculty of Information Technology and student Weam Al-Ali from the Faculty of Graduate Studies, under the supervision of Dr. Othman Mohammad Othman from the Faculty of Information Technology.

The team achieved first place as part of a multi-national international group under Dr. Othman Othman’s supervision, with support from student mentor Yaffa Jarradat from Palestine Polytechnic University. Meanwhile, student Mohammad Hannini and Dr. Mousa Farajallah from Palestine Polytechnic University secured joint second place for their submitted projects.

Student Mohammad Hannini also distinguished himself by receiving first place in the Audience Choice Award, in addition to second place based on the Jury’s evaluation.

The participation of the outstanding Palestinian teams followed their qualification through the local Palestine Quantum Computing Hackathon, held in January 2025 and organized by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Economy in cooperation with the Palestinian Quantum Computing Hackathon Committee, chaired by Dr. Farajallah, under the sponsorship of Universe Telecom, and with the participation of leading universities.

The hackathon featured multiple stages, beginning with participants being introduced to the latest developments in quantum computing by scientists from prominent academic institutions. International and interdisciplinary teams were then formed under the guidance of field experts. Participating teams competed by developing projects that propose solutions to societal challenges in the health, social, environmental, and educational sectors, using quantum computing technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms.

This marks the fifth consecutive Palestinian participation in this hackathon since the launch of the Palestine Quantum Computing Hackathon, reaffirming the excellence and leadership of Palestinian students in creativity and innovation at regional and international levels.

This achievement reflects the success of collaboration between the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Economy, the academic sector, and the private sector, through a strategic partnership that empowers Palestinian youth, enhances their capabilities in emerging technologies, and strengthens Palestine’s presence in international forums. It also underscores the pioneering role of An-Najah National University in nurturing young talent and promoting its students’ excellence regionally and globally.
