ISO 15189 is designed specifically for medical laboratories. It is a quality management system to help laboratories develop a highly-disciplined approach to improving the quality of services and outcomes. It provides a road map for identifying opportunities to improve, implementing change, and then sustaining the resulting gains in quality. The process involves nine steps and typically takes two years to complete.

“We are excited to be involved in strengthening the laboratory system at An-Najah National University Hospital in Nablus to adequately serve the citizens of Palestine,” said Professor Maher Natsheh, An-Najah University's President. “Our success is a testimony of the incredible team we have on ground. Now we have to make sure that these accredited laboratories continue to operate at international standards in order to maintain their accreditation.”

PALAC assessed An-Najah National University Hospital's Medical Laboratories according to the ISO 15189 benchmarks. These standards cover personnel, equipment, documentation, external quality assurance, internal audits, customer care, safety, among other topics.
