Dr. Saad Tarapiah from the Department of Telecommunication Engineering at An-Najah National University has published a peer-reviewed research article in the international journal Algorithms (Impact Factor: 2.1, Q1-ranked in Scopus). The study explores the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in detecting and preventing phishing email attempts, a critical challenge in cybersecurity.

The research, titled “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Large Language Models (LLMs) versus Machine Learning (ML) in Identifying and Detecting Phishing Email Attempts,” builds on the master’s thesis of Eng. Linda Abbas, and was co-authored by Dr. Ola Mardawi from the Department of Computer Engineering at An-Najah University.

The study investigates how cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs) compare with traditional Machine Learning (ML) techniques in combating phishing attacks by analyzing fraudulent email patterns. Its findings provide new insights into applying AI technologies for enhanced cybersecurity resilience.

The project was conducted in collaboration with distinguished researchers from the University of Dubai: Prof. Wathiq Mansoor, Dr. Shadi Atallah, and Dr. Yassine Himeur. Notably, Dr. Haymer is ranked among the top 2% of researchers worldwide according to Stanford University’s global rankings.

This achievement marks an important contribution to An-Najah University’s growing body of international scientific research and reinforces its standing on the global academic stage.
