Celebrating excellence in cross-disciplinary innovation at An-Najah National University
As part of its strategic vision to advance research excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration, the Deanship of Scientific Research at An-Najah National University has announced the winners of the inaugural 2025 Best Interdisciplinary Scientific Research Award. This annual recognition honors outstanding research that bridges multiple academic disciplines and addresses complex, real-world challenges through a rigorous, integrative approach.
In the Health and Medical Sciences category, Dr. Muhammad Al-Qunaibi and Dr. Mohammed Hawash received the award for their study titled:
“Deciphering the Biophysical Properties of Ion Channel Gating Pores by Coumarin–Benzodiazepine Hybrid Derivatives: Selective AMPA Receptor Antagonists.”
Their research stood out for its strong interdisciplinary design, scientific rigor, and relevance to global development priorities, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project earned high marks from the evaluation committee and was praised for meeting the standards of the Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Research framework, which evaluates research impact across disciplines.
In the Humanities and Social Sciences category, Dr. Zuheir N Khlaif, in collaboration with Prof. Allam Mousa, was recognized for their joint publication:
“Immersive Extended Reality (XR) Technology in Engineering Education: Opportunities and Challenges.”
This study explored the integration of immersive XR technologies in engineering education, offering critical insights into both the pedagogical opportunities and technological challenges. The research was commended for its innovative fusion of engineering and digital learning, and for presenting actionable recommendations for enhancing higher education practices.
The Deanship of Scientific Research extended its congratulations to the award recipients and expressed appreciation to all participating faculty for their commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research at the University.
Launched in early 2025, this award reflects An-Najah National University’s dedication to fostering a vibrant research culture, promoting collaboration across disciplines, and strengthening its position in international academic rankings—particularly within the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Research (IDR) category.
