Medication and Poisoning

Prevention of Medicine Poisoning in Children

  • Use child-resistant caps correctly, but remember that child-resistant does not mean childproof.
  • Keep medicines in their original, labeled, child-resistant containers.
  • Follow label instructions and warnings and read it carefully before use
  • Call medicine “medicine” not “candy.” Children like to eat candy.
  • Do not take medicines in front of children because children imitate adults.
  • Put all medicine up and away and out of sight including your own. Make sure that all medicine and vitamins are stored out of reach and out of sight of children.
  • Do not leave the child alone and the medication handy and not even for a moment.
  • Get rid of any expired medicines in an appropriate manner.
