As the first initiative of its kind in Palestine, An-Najah National University has officially launched a Micro-Credentials Framework aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), marking a major milestone toward enhancing international academic compatibility, graduate employability, and flexible lifelong learning pathways.

The framework introduces structured, credit-bearing, and stackable short programs, mapped to clearly defined learning outcomes and referenced to specific EQF levels. This alignment strengthens transparency and cross-border recognition, reinforcing compatibility with Erasmus+ mobility schemes, joint and dual degree programs, and cooperation within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The EQF-aligned micro-credentials framework will be rolled out through an initial cohort of specialized programs focusing on high-demand fields such as industrial control systems, industrial automation, applied artificial intelligence, smart and automated technologies, and international project writing and preparation.

Designed for students, graduates, and professionals, the programs typically range between 30 and 50 training hours and follow a competency-based, practice-oriented approach, ensuring direct relevance to labor market needs while maintaining academic quality and transnational recognition.
Developed in line with Bologna Process principles and the 2022 EU Council Recommendation on micro-credentials, the initiative supports lifelong learning and enhances the portability of short learning experiences. Micro-credentials may function as standalone certified qualifications or be stacked and accumulated toward diplomas and degrees, enabling modular academic progression and supporting Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways.

Beyond academic mobility, the framework directly responds to evolving labor-market demands shaped by digital transformation, artificial intelligence, sustainability transitions, and innovation-driven sectors. Designed using competency-based methodologies, the programs offer targeted upskilling and reskilling opportunities for students, graduates, and professionals.

Professor Abdel Naser Zaid, President of An-Najah, emphasized:

“Through our EQF-aligned micro-credentials, we are advancing a quality-driven and globally competitive model of learning that ensures no Palestinian student is excluded from the opportunities created by digital transformation. This framework prepares our graduates to navigate current labor-market demands and to lead in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.”

With this launch, An-Najah advances a modern, transparent, and internationally recognized credentialing model, reinforcing its position as a regional leader in innovation-driven and globally connected higher education.
