Dr. Abdelhaleem Ibrahim Khader, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering and Assistant Dean of Scientific Research at An-Najah National University, participated in a virtual Arab evening titled “The Impact of Climate Change on the Arab Region,” held on Monday, 22 December 2025, via Zoom.

The event was organized by the Community Service and Development Committee as part of the 2025 programs of the Arab Union of Scout and Guide Pioneers.

During his presentation, Dr. Khader emphasized that the Arab region stands on the “front line” of climate change impacts, noting that the issue is no longer about distant projections but a daily, tangible reality. He highlighted regional examples including declining rainfall, shrinking agricultural land, rising heatwaves, and increasing water stress and flood risks.

He also addressed key dimensions of climate change in the region, particularly water scarcity and its direct link to food security, the health impacts of extreme heat, as well as floods, storms, and rising sea levels and their threats to cities and infrastructure. He further discussed how climate change is influencing migration patterns and social stability.

To respond to these growing challenges, Dr. Khader presented a comprehensive three-pillar roadmap:

  • Adaptation: enhancing water management, early warning systems, and climate-resilient urban planning

  • Mitigation: promoting clean energy and improving energy efficiency

  • Awareness and community action: emphasizing the vital role of scouting movements in environmental awareness, community service, and disaster response

This participation reflects An-Najah’s continued commitment to advancing its academic and community engagement in sustainability and climate action, strengthening collaboration with regional institutions, and supporting awareness initiatives that empower youth and volunteer communities.
