An-Najah University Participates as a Partner in the Second Sustainability Week and the First Gulf International Conference on Sustainable Development and Innovation in Bahrain
An-Najah University participated virtually in the Second Sustainability Week (GUSW2025) and the First Gulf International Conference on Sustainable Development and Innovation (ICSDI 2025). The events were organized by Gulf University in the Kingdom of Bahrain and held on its campus in the capital, Manama, from 16–17 November 2025. With broad participation from international universities and research institutions interested in sustainability and innovation issues.
An-Najah’s participation in this prominent international event came through the virtual contribution of Prof. Waleed Sweileh, Dean of Scientific Research, who was officially invited as a “Distinguished Participant” in recognition of the University’s leading role in scientific research, sustainability, and international rankings.
In addition to its academic contribution, An-Najah University is also one of the official partners of the Sustainability Week and the International Conference, alongside several other prestigious universities. The University’s logo is prominently displayed among the leading partners and sponsors on the official website of the Sustainability Week and Conference—this highlights the University’s prominent role as a leading academic partner in the region in sustainable development and innovation.
This partnership reflects the University’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives that promote a culture of sustainability and foster effective collaboration networks among Arab and international universities, with positive impacts on education, research, and community service.
Presenting An-Najah University's experience in sustainability rankings
During the conference sessions, Prof. Sweileh delivered a presentation highlighting An-Najah University’s achievements in global sustainability rankings, particularly the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, in which the University ranked 82nd worldwide. He explained that this accomplishment stems from a clear strategic vision adopted by the University to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into teaching, research, and community initiatives.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing a dedicated Sustainability Office within universities, presenting An-Najah’s experience in creating a specialized office responsible for coordinating efforts among faculties and centers, measuring performance indicators, and documenting evidence required for global rankings—contributing significantly to the University’s advancement in international indicators.
Effective University–Industry Partnerships for Sustainability
Prof. Sweileh emphasized that achieving real progress in sustainability indicators requires strengthening the Academia–Industry Partnership, by directing scientific research toward practical solutions to challenges in the fields of energy, water, food, environment, and health, as well as developing joint projects that support the national economy and advance sustainable development.
Prof. Sweileh stated: “The support and sponsorship of An-Najah University, and its participation in Sustainability Week and the Sustainable Development and Innovation Conference in Bahrain, reflect our belief that sustainability is a collective project. It requires cooperation among Arab and international universities, and integration of roles between education, research, and industry to serve our communities and enhance our presence in global rankings.”
