As part of its vision to advance scientific research and global academic collaboration, An-Najah National University is proud to launch a newly accredited and forward-looking PhD Program in Engineering Systems Management and Sustainability. The program is set to welcome its first cohort in the Fall 2025/2026 academic year.

This interdisciplinary doctoral program is tailored to address 21st-century engineering and sustainability challenges. It aims to develop a new generation of highly skilled researchers and innovators capable of managing complex systems in infrastructure, transportation construction, urban development, energy, industry, and environmental protection through the lens of sustainability and resilience. Due to its inter-disciplinary nature, the program is intended to accommodate holders of master degree in the various engineering disciplines.

A distinctive hallmark of this program is its academic collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – BarcelonaTech (UPC), one of Spain’s and Europe’s leading institutions in technology and engineering, ranked among the top 25% of universities globally and the top 10% in sustainability. A memorandum of understanding was signed with UPC in June, paving the way for impactful collaboration in academic exchange, scientific research and academic supervision, and shared innovation.

The program structure is rigorous yet flexible, comprising 54 credit hours, including core courses, a wide range of specialized elective courses, and dissertation research. The curriculum blends advanced theoretical knowledge with hands-on application in areas such as:

  • Smart Cities and Infrastructure Systems

  • Sustainable Design, Construction, Materials, and Technology

  • Quality Engineering and Management

  • Climate-Smart and Circular Design

  • Artificial Intelligence for Engineering

  • Digital Innovation and Transformation

  • Supply Chain Modeling and Sustainable Production

Through a faculty team of professional and leading scholars in civil, environmental, mechanical, industrial, material, planning, management, and computer engineering, students will be immersed in real-world problem-solving supported by cutting-edge tools and methodologies.

The PhD program strongly aligns with An-Najah’s mission of fostering scientific excellence, contributing to sustainable economic and social development, and enhancing the university’s global footprint in higher education. Graduates of the program will be well-equipped to lead in academic, industrial, and policy-making settings both locally and internationally.
