An-Najah University Hosts Launch of a Book with Exhibition and Lecture



On May 21, 2025, the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at An-Najah National University hosted a cultural event featuring the launch of the book "Mamluk Jerusalem: History and Architecture", alongside an architectural exhibition and public lecture. The event was attended by faculty members, students, and enthusiasts of Palestinian heritage.
The exhibition presented rare maps, images, and drawings highlighting the unique features of Mamluk architecture in Jerusalem, followed by a guided tour. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Eng. Mohammed Dweikat and Dr. Sameh Monna, Head of the Department, while Dr. Muhannad Haj Hussein, Dean of the Faculty, honored guests from the Palestinian Museum, represented by Ms. Marah Khalifeh and Mr. Abdallah Abu Saud, who shared insights into the museum’s current and future programs.
The keynote lecture, titled “Mamluk Architecture in Jerusalem: Features and Characteristics,” was delivered by Dr. Haithem Al-Ratrout, offering a historical and analytical perspective on this rich architectural period.
Dr. Mohammed Itma, Program Coordinator, emphasized the importance of connecting academic study with cultural preservation to raise awareness of Jerusalem’s architectural identity.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session and interviews with speakers and attendees, prepared by student Sadeel Al-Salman.
The book, authored by Nazmi Al-Jubeh, was published with support from the Arab Monetary Fund and the Old City of Jerusalem Revitalization Program of the Welfare Association, providing a valuable scholarly contribution to documenting Jerusalem’s Mamluk architectural heritage.
