An-Najah National University organized an international seminar on the “Bologna Process” on March 13, 2025, via Zoom, as part of its role as the lead coordinator of the BASE Erasmus+ project. The event, held in collaboration with the University of Pisa and supported by the European Commission, attracted participants from Palestine, Jordan, Italy, Spain, Iraq, Algeria, Ethiopia, and Uzbekistan. The seminar focused on the Bologna Process’s role in improving education quality, enhancing academic mobility, and ensuring international recognition of qualifications.

Dr. Abdelhaleem Khader, the project coordinator at An-Najah, highlighted the Bologna Process’s importance in enhancing education standards and academic mobility. The seminar featured experts such as Prof. Prof. Anne Catherine Isaacs from the University of Pisa, who discussed the process’s history, and Prof. Carla Salvaterra from the University of Bologna, who provided insights on designing curricula based on learning outcomes. Ms. Mag Helga Boset from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education addressed the commitments needed for EHEA alignment. Dr. Elisa Petrucci from CIMEA focused on international recognition of academic qualifications, and Ms. Olga Bogullras from the University of Barcelona shared her institution’s experience with quality assurance and Bologna standards.

The seminar not only featured presentations but also promoted discussions on the Bologna process’s role in improving higher education quality and graduates’ employment opportunities. Conversations focused on outcome-based education and strengthening quality assurance to better align curriculum with labor market needs. The seminar concluded with recommendations, including national plans for Bologna implementation and increased university cooperation.

Launched by An-Najah in February 2025, the BASE project aims to develop science faculties at Palestinian and Jordanian universities in line with Bologna standards. This initiative focuses on restructuring academic programs, ensuring international degree recognition, and enhancing technical education to better prepare graduates for the job market and reduce unemployment.

An-Najah continues to lead academic reforms, strengthening its position as a hub for innovation in higher education. This seminar marks the start of an ongoing journey in academic development, as the university remains committed to providing high-quality education, fostering international cooperation, and preparing graduates for the global job market.
