In a historic achievement for An-Najah University and its academic community, Dr. Suha Hamshri, Head of the Palestinian Association of Family Medicine (PAFM) and Director of An-Najah Medical Clinics, has been honored with the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Global 5 Stars Award for the year 2023. Dr. Hamshri stands as the first Arab-Palestinian doctor specializing in family medicine in the Middle East to receive this esteemed recognition.


This distinguished accolade is a testament to Dr. Hamshri's unwavering dedication and innovative contributions to advancing healthcare in the field of family medicine. The World Organization of Family Doctors acknowledged her exceptional efforts in providing comprehensive healthcare, developing cutting-edge technologies, and pioneering programs that elevate the quality of medical services within the family medicine specialty.

Dr. Hamshri's outstanding leadership was further exemplified by establishing the first family medicine clinic at An-Najah University. This model facility offers comprehensive primary health care services across all age groups, contributing to the growth and recognition of family medicine in Palestine. Her commitment to integrating family medicine into the curriculum and securing international accreditation for medical education through TEPDAD underscores her commitment to elevating medical standards in Palestine.

Beyond her roles in academia and clinical leadership, Dr. Hamshri played a crucial role in formulating the curriculum and coordinating a virtual teaching program sponsored by British NGOs, Foundations for Family Medicine in Palestine (FFMP), and Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Her dedication to enhancing educational resources for family medicine residents is evident in these initiatives.

As a founding member of PAFM, Dr. Hamshri has organized three international conferences and developed a continuing education program for family doctors in Palestine, including those in Gaza. Her role as the first female president of PAFM marks a historic milestone for women in leadership roles within the Palestinian general medicine community.

Dr. Hamshri's international collaborations, particularly with British counterparts, have significantly contributed to the development of family medicine in Palestine. Her representation of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) on the WONCA Organizational Equity Committee (OEC) positions her as a global advocate for family medicine advancement.
