Celebrating the success of the Winter School in High Energy Physics in Palestine (WISHEPP) which has been organized annually since 2016 at An-Najah National University, the activities of the Palestinian Day at Paris-Saclay were organized by An-Najah University in cooperation with the University of Paris-Saclay with the participation of Her Excellency the Palestinian Ambassador in France, Mrs. Hala Abu Hasira on Friday, July 1, 2022 at IJCLab in the University of Paris Saclay in France.


The event was coordinated by Dr. Ahmed Bassalat, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University, Visiting researcher at IJCLab, and Head of the Winter School in High Energy Physics in Palestine (WISHEPP) and Prof. Achille Stocchi, Director of IJCLab and Professor of Physics at the University of Paris Saclay

The Palestinian Day included the participation of Dr. Kherieh ‎Rassas, An-Najah's Vice President for International and External Relations, Prof. Raed Al-Kowni, Dean of the Faculty of Science at An-Najah University, Dr. Hamed Abdelhaq, Head of Computer Science Department, and Dr. Mahmoud Assad, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, a number of the An-Najah University staff from different faculties and departments as well as a representative of the International Relations of the University of Paris Saclay, the director of the IJCLab, the head of the Department of Accelerators, and the head of High Energy Physics Department at IJCLab.

During the day, a cooperation agreement was signed between An-Najah and the PERLE collaboration. PERLE collaboration is an international scientific cooperation between prestigious science laboratories from France, England, America, and Palestine represented by An-Najah to work towards the design and construction of PERLE based on an Energy Recovery LINAC technology.

The event included scientific visits to several laboratories of Paris-Saclay University including the ATLAS Experiment’s research laboratories,Proton Therapy Center | Institut Curie  Hospital, and the Supercomputing Center.

As part of the event’s activities, 8 PhD students from An-Najah presented their work as a major accomplishment of the strong cooperation between An-Najah and Paris-Saclay University through the Winter School. The presentations were given by An-Najah students who were dispatched to the University of Paris Saclay to conduct joint research or to complete their PhD.

Another 12 posters have been put on display by the students from the University completing exchange semesters at Paris-Saclay University in physics, chemistry, mathematics, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mechatronics engineering.

Through WISHEPP, An-Najah University obtained funding that covered more than 100 scholarships for its students from the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at Bachelor and Master levels over the past seven years.

During the event, Ambassador Abu Hassira and Dr. Rassas commended An-Najah University’s efforts in strengthening and promoting the Palestinian-French relations in terms of research, student and faculty exchanges. They also thanked Dr. Bassalat for his role in building bridges of academic and research cooperation between An-Najah University and Paris-Saclay University.
