The Palestinian National Council (PNC) recently appointed Dr. Sana Sarghali, Chair of An-Najah's Constitutional Studies Centre, and Faculty Member at the University's Faculty of Law, as the ninth member of the Select Constitutional Drafting Committee in Palestine which makes her the only female member to be selected for this position.

Dr. Sarghali joined the committee right after an awareness campaign organized by the University’s Constitutional Studies Centre in collaboration with Women Media & Development (TAM), and MIFTAH.

The campaign aimed to raise public awareness on the Select Constitutional Drafting Committee, and the constitutional drafting process in Palestine.

The campaign's organizers invited the Select Constitutional Drafting Committee to participate in the campaign along with  representatives of women's organizations.

The campaign resulted in a number of recommendations, most important  is adding female members to the Select Constitutional Drafting committee's composition to improve the working environment.

Notes:

Dr. Al-Sarghali is the first Palestinian woman to have a PhD in constitutional law, and the first to obtain the Outstanding Alumni Award from Lancaster University.

Initiated by Dr. Al-Sarghali, the Constitutional Studies Centre (NCSC) focuses particularly on the separation of powers; the scope of legislative, ‎executive, and judicial powers and on the structure of constitutional democracy; the ‎freedoms of speech, gender studies within constitutional agendas, press, and religion.
