On Monday, March 19th, 2018, Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah received Mrs. Laura Scheller, Head of Press and Cultural Affairs at the Representative Office of the Federal Republic of Germany Ramallah and Mrs. Basma Khatib, Press, Human Rights and Cultural Affairs Officer. The delegation was also received by Dr. Mohammad Al-Amleh, Vice President of Academic Affairs, the International Office and the PR Department at An-Najah.


The meeting aimed at discussing possible means of mutual cooperation between An-Najah and the German universities with regards to media, journalism, public relations, engineering and veterinary medicine. It also aimed at strengthening academic and cultural exchange for students and staff.

Prof. Natsheh started with a brief statement about An-Najah's history, academic programmes, campuses, scientific centers and international cooperation with European and American universities. He also talked about the political and financial challenges that face higher education in Palestine, in particular, students' mobility and visa issues. He added that An-Najah aims to offer programmes that meet the labour market's requirements.

Mrs. Scheller referred to the scholarships offered by German institutions such as the DAAD as well as those offered by the Representative Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. She mentioned that she is trying to learn about the students and staff needs to manage offering new scholarships in other fields.

After the meeting, the Public Relations Department organized a tour for the delegation of the New Campus where they met with the heads of written journalism, public relations and radio and TV departments to learn about the courses and training they offer. The department heads talked about the difficulties that face student and staff training, and the lack of equipment.

Then, the delegation went to the Media Centre to learn about its facilities and equipment.

The delegation also met with a number of architectural engineering professors, who graduated from German universities, to discuss further cooperation.

Finally, the delegation met with Dr. Sameh Abu Seir, Head of the Veterinary Medicine Department, who also graduated from a German university. Dr. Abu Seir introduced the guests to the department's history, which was established in 2000, and the number of enrolled students and working staff there. He also mentioned that An-Najah offers the only faculty of veterinary medicine in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
