On Monday, October 2nd, 2017, the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training at An-Najah held a scientific session on astronomy and science teaching strategies.

The session hosted the American volunteer Mr. Robert Hendryx, specialist in physics and astronomy who was accompanied with Mrs. Noura Khaleefa, Coordinator of the English Language Programme at Project Hope Centre.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Alia Assali, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Teacher Training; a number of the faculty staff members; Mrs. Shatha Jararaa from PR and a number of the University students.

The meeting aimed at introducing An-Najah future teachers to new teaching methods in the U.S so that they can be applied in the Palestinian schools.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Assali welcomed the guest and briefed the attendees on his career and academic life.

Mr. Hendryx talked about his experience as a volunteer in the "Project Hope" project which aims at encouraging cultural exchange and changing the stereotyped image of Palestinians in the West. He also gave a presentation on the five Es science lesson; namely, engage, explore, explain, extend and evaluate. Then he gave a teaching model for the 7th grade class based on the five Es.

At the end of the session, the volunteer talked in brief about astronomy and its teaching methods and its positive impact on Palestinian school students.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Hendryx will be giving other lectures and sessions for education, science and school students during his visit to Nablus.
